Sebring Acres is one of 26 Special Benefit Districts within Highlands County and is supervised by the County Board of Commissioners. The fund was created for the purpose of "providing for borrowing capabilities; ownership & disposition of property; flood & erosion control; reclamation; irrigation; water & sewer systems; public thoroughfares ; fire protection; recreational facilities; removal of nuisances; street lighting ; issuance of bonds & revenue certificates; and other powers" to facilitate improvements to the subdivision. The Fund is currently just used to cover subdivision expenses associated with street lighting. The tax fund for the Sebring Acres district has been growing at a steady rate for the past several years. Currently, the fund pays the costs incurred for 11 street lights within the subdivision. There are other limited uses the District "could" implore to facilitate improvements to the subdivision such as increased street lighting, improving non-county maintained public roads, and drainage canal maintenance. Management of the fund falls under the County's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Division's Office of Administrative Services for Non-Ad Valorem Assessments. The tax dollars assessed annually can have an impact on the quality of the Sebring Acres subdivision. Collectively, our aim should be to responsibly use the funds assets and improve the facilities within Sebring Acres. The tax dollars assessed annually can have an impact on the quality of the Sebring Acres subdivision.
